About Photographying Stage Performances – Helsinki Fitness 2016

  This year I barely had time to participate Photo & Camera fair in Helsinki Messukeskus as I was so eagerly taking photos about the other events happening around Go Expo stages, e.g. Helsinki Fitness competition. Photography is all about the light and a great photo has great light like I have stated in several earlier blog posts. When shooting a live stage show one has to hope that lighting is set properly and is supportive for photography.

Man in a coffee break The jury nominating Sami Rievinen as the best portrait photographer of 2014 in Finland said that professionals do not take photos, they create those. This can be seen from the best studio portaits. On the other hand there is another trend of photography evolving around the street photography idea of seizing the perfect moment and timing without manipulating or staging the photo. Both approaches are worth of mastering, but it is also worth understanding how to combine these, i.e. how to seize the sudden opportunity to stage a good photo?

London Eye – Tips for Travel Photography

There are lot's of travel photo tutorials, which tell you the basics: 1. Seize the golden moment = wake up ridiculously early 2. Be earlier than fellow photographers to get the best spot for tripod on a crowded photosight = wake up even earlier 3. Seize the blue hour = miss all the night activities or good night's sleep 4. Take your time = miss all the other atractions 5. Use tripod 6. Travel light = leave your tripod home

How to Shoot Portraits at Home

 

In this text I talk about how I do the portrait shoots when at home without proper studio. I recently faced a situation where I was asked to take a profile photo of a professional with short notice.
